Repurposing Content: Optimizing PDFs for Instagram & LinkedIn Algorithms

The Algorithm Loves Quality

Social platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn compress images heavily. If you upload a blurry screenshot, their compression algorithms will turn it into unintelligible noise.

The Specs

  • Instagram Portrait: 4:5 Aspect Ratio (1080 x 1350 px).
  • LinkedIn Carousel: PDF Document (Portrait or Square).

Why PNG over JPG?

For text-heavy slides, PNG-24 is mandatory.

  • JPG: Uses "lossy" compression (Discrete Cosine Transform) which creates "artifacting" or fuzziness around high-contrast text edges.
  • PNG: Uses "lossless" compression (Deflate algorithm), preserving sharp typography perfectly.

The Extraction Workflow

Using PDF to Image, we render the vector font data directly to a raster grid at 300 DPI. This provides a source file roughly 3x larger than the screen display size, giving the social media compression algorithms "plenty of data" to work with, verifying the final result looks crisp on a Retina display.
